Rathaus
- The Rathaus (Town Hall) of Graz is one of the most prominent landmarks in the city, located in the heart of Hauptplatz (Main Square). This grand building serves as the seat of the city’s municipal government, housing the offices of the mayor and other administrative departments. With its majestic façade, grand clock tower, and elegant design, the Rathaus is a striking symbol of Graz’s historical and political significance.
- The current Town Hall was constructed in 1893–1894 in the Historicist style, replacing earlier versions that had stood on the same site since the Middle Ages. The design was influenced by Baroque and Renaissance elements, featuring ornate windows, decorative sculptures, and a grand central dome. - During the winter season, the Rathaus becomes even more magical as its façade is transformed into a giant advent calendar, illuminated with festive projections during the famous Graz Christmas Market.
